Mite Infestaion in a Budgerigar


Here you can see damage to the cere, the skin around the nostrils, this is permanent damage. The mite doing this damage has a scientific name of Cnemidocoptes mutans.
Here the mites have spread out onto the face and the bird is scratching the area. The changes here are still reversible
The same type of mite can cause damage to the skin of the toes and legs. So a bird can suffer from scaly beak, scaly feet or scaly beak and feet as this bird does. The mite doing this damage has a scientific name of Cnemidocoptes pilae.
This is the same bird as in previous picture .Here you can see very extensive damage to the beak and skin around the beak. This bird should have been treated several weeks earlier to prevent this.
