| This young female Staffordshire Bull Terrier was brought in by
the RSPCA The staff quickly renamed her Piglet because of her appearance.
PIglet has chronic demodex mange due to a mite called demodex that is living
under the dog's skin. She also has a severe bacterial skin infection . She will
need treatment for months. |
 |
| Piglet was treated with antibiotics, antihistamines, medicated
antibacterial shampoos and licensed veterinary products available at the time
of the case (Jan 2008) to kill demodex mites. The licensed products in this
instance were not satisfactory so Piglet was treated with another medicine that
is licensed for cattle for 3 months. |
 |
| This achieved a good and permanent cure (as of August 2011).

 |
| Photographs 1 and 2 show Piglet on the first day, photograph 3
shows piglet 4 months later and photograph 4 shows piglet 3 years
later. |
